In this episode, Teri welcomes Harry Pappas, the Founder and CEO of the Intelligent Health Association (IHA).
Harry is a serial entrepreneur and has never worked for the corporate world. His core goal is to get the healthcare community to adopt new technology, software, apps, voice and other forms of technology that can have a dramatic impact on improving patient outcomes, patient care and patient safety while driving down the cost of Healthcare for all citizens. When it comes to healthcare and technology, Harry knows his stuff.
HIMMS is the largest health IT show in the United States. In 2018, they had over 42,000 healthcare professionals from about 150 countries. In 2019, the event will be in Orlando, Florida and kicks off on February 12th.

How he got into the Voice Space
- He had never planned to start an educational association for healthcare technology, but due to a number of personal events that took place with his mother and some other family members, he was forced to get into helping to transform healthcare by developing educational events to help the healthcare community better understand the technology revolution that we are in right now.
- He has been in technology his whole life and has been in the healthcare space for about 15 years.
- He combined the knowledge and experience he gained from working in commercial enterprises and major hospitals and applied it to innovating healthcare technology.
How he sees Voice changing things and more about the HIMMS
- At HIMSS, for the last three years, they have been demonstrating, under the radar, the use of voice in the operating room, the use of voice in the labor and delivery room, and even in the trauma ED.
- Due to the tremendous proliferation of voice skills in so many areas of the hospital, they can now demonstrate a lot of new skills in many more areas.
- They have the iHome, a health and wellness smart home where they will be able to demonstrate voice skills pertaining to better health and wellness in the home, and how the technology can enable seniors to age in place, and provide them with remote healthcare coverage.
- They added a voice award program into HIMSS. They are also doing a one day conference on voice technology in healthcare. They will have some of the top hospitals to demonstrate for visitors what and how they are using voice. They also have a women in voice panel with a great lineup of speakers.
